Ryuji Yamazaki made his menacing debut in The King of Fighters series in KOF 97, forming the "Special Team" alongside fellow Fatal Fury alumni Billy Kane and Blue Mary. While originally a grit and grime gangster from Fatal Fury, his integration into the KOF universe added a mystical layer to his persona, revealing him as a member of the Eight Hakkesshu (The Orochi Bloodline).
This dark lineage connects him to pivotal figures like Yashiro Nanakase and the formidable Goenitz. In KOF XV, Yamazaki is finally featured in his official Orochi clan attire, allowing fans to experience his signature brand of madness while paying homage to his pivotal role in the Orochi Saga’s rich and complex lore.

Ryuji Yamazaki does not follow any formal martial arts discipline; instead, he employs a brutal, no-holds-barred street brawling style. His moveset is filled with underhanded tactics, kicking sand into the opponent's eyes, violent headbutts, and mercilessly stomping on a fallen foe. These savage techniques perfectly encapsulate his chaotic and unpredictable personality.
His most iconic weapon is his whip-like arm strikes, known as "Hebi Tsukai" (Snake Slinger), which allow him to strike from incredible distances with lightning speed.
